Bonjour!! My name is Karlie Carpentier Rosin, and I'm an Artist living in Vancouver, British Columbia :)

I'm originally from Montreal - born and raised! My mom is french Canadian and my father is Estonian. I moved to Vancouver on October 31st, 2015 (you can imagine that was quite a night to move here, but that's a whole other story!) Here's a whole novel about me, but still in a nutshell. I just thought I'd start this blog off with a bit of background info :D

I’m a figurative painter and illustrator and I love to channel my creativity through many different mediums. I use vibrant colours and create using different traditional techniques including acrylic, watercolours, markers and coloured pencils, as well as digital painting and I especially love to mix digital and traditional mediums. I find inspiration everywhere I go through my environment and experiences. Subjects such as landscapes, animals, plant life, space, fashion, design, behaviours, current events and traveling really inspire me!

I started my first art class when I was 5 years old after my mom saw the drawing I did of Lisa Simpson and perceived this talent in me that I have been cultivating ever since! (I'll have to ask her if she still has that drawing...!!!) She's always believed in me and owe her so much for choosing to see & listen to my creative soul! My grandpa and my dad too, have always been 100% supportive! I'm blessed with such a great family. Here I am with my mom for high tea at The Empress in Victoria!

I kept taking extra curricular art classes at this first school called the West Island Creative Arts Center in the West Island of Montreal with Janet Harris where I mainly learned how to draw, oil paint, acrylic paint, pottery, ceramic painting, and many many other things! This was a great way to get a feel for all the arts and slowly discover my artistic language.

I still remember there was a moment when I discovered that not everyone can draw and paint.. It was a trippy moment. I was really young and I just remember I got this kind of realization- it was pretty epic. I realized this was special to me, only I could do art the way I do art. Only I had this creative energy that was my own! Something I could get to know and develop. It's a pretty special moment.

Later in my teenage years I switched schools into the La Palette Art School with Renate Heidersdorf. There was (and probably still is) a long waiting list to get in and my mom - continuously believing in my talent and being the go-getter that she is - encouraged me to put a portfolio together and demanded a meeting with Renate for her to look at my artwork. I guess it worked! I started the next week.

La Palette Art School was a life changing experience for me. The level of art and talent here was unbelievable. Renate's entrepreneurial nature, her talent and her strong personality was an ongoing inspiration to me and she very quickly became an extremely important person in my life, a mentor. We were the Thursday Night Crew - 7pm to 9pm.

This became a family- we would do art together, teach each other techniques, share about our week, our ups and downs, our struggles and our accomplishments - it truly was like a very productive support group! This is where I flourished as an Artist, where I started taking it extremely seriously. Renate coached me and helped me put a portfolio together for my application to the Illustration & Design program at Dawson College where only a portion of applicants get into this sought out program!

I got accepted on the first try, and was absolutely ecstatic!!! I then started my journey in this 3 year career program. I was interested in being an illustrator for advertising agencies, just like my late uncle did- as an illustrator for advertising companies such as Cossette as well as for movie posters in LA when he moved there. This was going to be it!

I loved that program. I made great friends, discovered digital art, 3d art, technical drawing, more painting- we had professionalism classes and were surrounded by artists & teachers that had various different backgrounds! In my last year, I had an Environment Design class with Meinert Hensen- and that molded the next few years of my life. I realized I could mix my love of painting, nature and movies!

Karlie Carpentier Rosin went to Dawson College in Illustration & Design Program

Since my time at Dawson, I had been working as a Makeup Artist and was still doing that (and I actually still do that) so i took the year off after graduating and worked full time as a Makeup Artist to assess my next move- I had to study Matte Painting and Environment Design for the film industry but I wasn't sure where- I had just been in school for 3-4 years..

I chose to apply to the NAD Centre - a school with 2 University Bachelor programs: Digital Design for Visual Effects & Digital Design for Video Games. I chose the first program, applied- and got accepted first try!! Another big accomplishment!! I started another 3 years of studies. On the side, i kept doing makeup and freelance illustration & painting contracts while studying this robust program to become a Visual Effects Artist.

I work as a Matte Painter in the blockbuster film industry and have had the chance to create alongside some world leading artists. I've worked on movies such as Godzilla 2, Justice League, The Mummy, Suicide Squad, Fantastic Beasts, etc. and I keep learning. I also keep growing my personal business where I do commercial illustration and painting for businesses and individuals. If you want to see more about the services I offer, please head to my ABOUT ME page.

I chose to get serious with my personal business last March 2017. I opened up an @karlierosin business Facebook page, an @karlierosin Instagram account and slowly started growing my artistic presence! I've taken the summer to work full time on my art and my business - so this is an exciting time!

It's been over a year now, May 2018, and so far I've grown my Instagram to a strong community of amazing people, have been to so many events for painting or for sharing on social media, I have a wonderful Assistant who is interning with me and helping with so many things! I've found my women tribe and my community here in Vancouver, such amazing and supportive people! I've opened an Etsy Store, and have launched this website! My business was growing organically just with Instagram and in person - and I hope that the next step forward, with more online presence, can push my art to the next level!

Please contact me should you have any questions or are curious about my work! I would be happy to offer you a quote or help with creative direction.
